One Week Left!

I only have a recovery week left and I will have completed the P90X cycle.  I am excited to take the post workout test and plan to do that next Sunday.

I weighed in at 154.6 this morning.  I weigh myself every day and had a new low of 153.6 on Wednesday but Thanksgiving involved a few too many carbs to stay there.  Stuffing out of the bird is just so good.

I did some extra cardio X workouts this week.  This video will be in my post P90X life.  It involves a little bit of everything and is a super calorie burn.  I want to make a plan and post the plan so you readers can keep me accountable.  Right now I am thinking three days a week hour workouts, three days a week ab ripper X (16 minutes)  I am not sure how it will eventually look but if I can keep putting in videos six days a week, I won't get out of the habit of working out.  152 lbs by the new year is my new goal.  If I can settle in weight wise in the lower 150s, I will feel pretty good.  The wii said I should be 145 but it also said I was 27 years old the last time I was on it.

Next week's post.  Post test results and pictures!

muscle mass vs. fat

I have leveled off with my weight loss.  I know I could consume less calories but sometimes you just need an oatmeal raison cookie or two.  I also feel that as I continue to gain muscle mass it makes up for the fat that I have burned off.  I am starting to notice more definition in my arms and shoulders.

I made it through six workouts this week and have two weeks left.  I stand at 156.0 lbs. as of this morning.  This week will be an easy work week so I am going to try to throw in some extra cardio just for fun. I also plan on eating normally/excessively for Thanksgiving.

The hardest workout of the week was legs and back.  My hamstrings are still sore from Thursday morning's workout.  The stretch video helped this morning but they still tighten up after I am sitting down for awhile.  I felt very good doing chest and back last Sunday with much more endurance than two weeks earlier.

I haven't decided what to do yet when I end the P90X series.  I have talked to others that have completed the series and they are trying to do two or three days a week just try to stay near the level they ended with.  It was nice to put the suit on that I purchased 9 years ago for my Brookville interview on Thursday.  I am starting to get excited about the fit test in two weeks.

Three more weeks

Three more weeks to go until the fit test.  Last week I purchased two pair of pants that are 2 inches in the waist smaller than what I have worn for the the last three years.  I also had a little bit of a scare on Wednesday with the neck.  I was pounding out wide front pullups and the left side of my neck grabbed pretty hard.  I did not finish the pull up section of the workout and did not do the workout the next day as I was very sore.  I am feeling better today and will begin week 11 this afternoon.

I ate terribly this week.  March of Dimes fundraiser was on Monday where I pigged out.  I bought a school lunch on Friday and I ate out yesterday afternoon at the County Seat.  Needless to say I gained a pound this week.  I now stand at 155.5 as of this morning.

Back to chest and back today with ab ripper x included(still not fun and I am still not good at it).  Football season is done so I hope to have more energy for the weekends.  I would like to start playing racquetball again soon.

Week 10

I had a good week of workouts and feel ready to take on Week 10.  I weighed in at 154.6 this morning, a new low.  My legs were very fatigued last night standing in the rain for three hours at Karns City.  Today week 10 begins so I go back to chest, shoulders and triceps video that destroys me.

I feel like my appetite has finally decreased so I am not ravenous after eating smaller amounts of calories.  My goal of losing 10 pounds during the 90 day training is only 2.4 pounds away.  I am pretty confident I will get there in the next four weeks.

My big goal for the week is to do the ab ripper x video every day that I am supposed to.  I only completed it once last week out of the three times I was supposed to do it.  It is only 16 minutes, but it is extra in additional to the hour long videos that you complete.  Oh, by the way, I stink at it.  That is probably the reason I avoid it.

Week 9

I began with week 9 this morning after an 8 day recovery week.  Chest and back this morning and the Diamond push ups kicked my butt.  I really like this workout and plan to do the abs ripper after honors band auditions tonight.

There is halloween candy all over my house and I have been unable to resist.  Malted milk balls taste way too good.  I been afraid to step on the scale the last three days due to the candy consumption.  I am planning on taking some photos for day 60 in the workout cycle.  Congratulations goes to Bob Rizzo for finishing the P90X series.  I will be there in a month.

recovery week - Day 50

It is technically past day 50 but that is where I am in the P90X routine schedule after repeating a week and missing a few days here and there.  156.2 this morning.  This is a new low.  I haven't been this light in over five years.

I am currently baking apple muffins from scratch.  Honey has replaced sugar and whole wheat flour and chopped apples are the main ingredients.  I will let you know how they taste.

I made it through yoga twice this week.  Today is Core Synergystics.  I haven't done this workout in a month.  It will be fun to get back to it.

I am getting to a crisis point in my dress pants.  I do not have any that fit and all three belts that I own have become obsolete.  I am happy about this but it will cost me money.

Physical change

This morning doing the plyometrics workout, I noticed something about my clothing that was different.  When my shirt got all sweaty, it was hanging off my pectoral muscles instead of sticking to my stomach.  This is a good feeling.  My chest is further out than my gut.

This was a crazy week at work, so I am going to repeat week 7  before having my recovery week.  I plan on continuing the videos through the winter so it won't be a big deal to repeat a week.  It was great to talk to Bob Rizzo about his workouts and the positive changes he has seen.  Rob Heichel has just begun the workouts this week.  I am excited to talk to him and gets his take on it.

Fast Food - I ate Burger King with the kids on Wednesday before District Jazz auditions - Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Fries, and a Coke.  My body was hating me for the rest of the evening.  That is the first fast food I have had since beginning this workout.  I guess I am done with greasy fries and soda for a while.

I weighed in this morning at 157.6.  Five lbs since beginning the workouts and 11 lbs since May. I am getting to the point that I may need some new pants.

tough week

The beginning of the week was ugly.  I missed Tuesday and Wednesday due to exhaustion and feeling a little under the weather.  On Tuesday I went to bed at 8:00 pm.  On Wednesday I just didn't feel like working out.  So, now two more days behind, I am doing P95X.  I still feel pretty good about working out 45 of the last 50 days.  I am half way through week 3 of the second cycle.  I feel good about my strength improvements.  I changed to 15 lbs dumbbells this morning for most of the biceps exercises.  I like knowing that I can measure my improved strength by bigger weights.  On Tuesday I will begin another recovery week.  I am going to skip a rest day to try to get back to P94X.  I finally found a protein bar that I like and my lunch appetite has finally decreased to around 500 calories.  On a physical note,  Mandy had a vein pop out of her bicep this morning.  I am still searching for my veins.

Day 40 pictures

Work vs. workout

As life becomes busier I am finding these two elements, work and workouts, are becoming more adversarial to each other.  I still have the choice to get up at 5:00 and do the workout.  That is true.  However as the work days become longer with after school obligations, the energy level needed to perform well has become more of a struggle.  This morning I am about to set up, with my students' help, 1,650 chairs and label them for the ALF Parade.  Then I will walk two miles and stand for another two hours.  After that, I hope I can have the motivation to do legs and back.  If it was anything but legs it would be no problem.  We'll see how it goes.

Plyometrics

I love plyometrics.  The middle of the workout is killer hard.  The jump tucks are the "MOTHER of all P90X exercises."  Once you are through the middle it isn't too bad. If I were still coaching I would use this stuff to condition athletes and they would hate me, but get into great shape.  Mandy wants to post pictures on Saturday so maybe we will have pictures then.  We had fair food and ice cream tonight which does not fall anywhere close to the dietary suggestions. Oh well,  I would have eaten it even if I hadn't been working out daily for the last five and a half weeks.

5 weeks in

Mandy and I are 5 weeks in now on the P90X workout.  Since my last post we have decided to change workout series to the Classic workout.  Last weekend we traveled so we did not do the videos.  We began the series again this week so technically we are three days behind.  I guess we are on the P93X workout now.
I am proud to say those are the only three days I have missed doing at least one workout.  I am having a hard time getting to the ab ripper video.  Most of the time I am too tired to do it right after the other video for the day and then I don't get it in later either.  I need to figure out when I can get this in because my gut is still the softest part of my body.
I currently weigh 159.4 which is down from 162.2 when I started.  My goal of losing ten total pounds during the series is still a possibility.  I know I am gaining muscle mass so I don't feel too bad about not seeing dramatic weight loss on the scale.  I also haven't really followed the dietary suggestions other than trying to stay away from fast food and school lunches.
Mandy has been a great workout partner.  She drags herself out of bed each day even though she leaves for work 40 minutes after I do.  Yoga at 4:30 is tough.  Getting the video started is the hardest part.  Once I am five minutes in, I am happy I am doing it.  Hopefully we will have a chance to post photos today.  I will try to post more often. Things are starting to pick up at work though.

Recovery

The week has felt pretty good.  The recovery week is very cardio and stretching based.  Two sets of Yoga, two sets of stretching, with Core Synergistics, Kenpo, and Cardio video mixed in.  Mandy and I did Kenpo and stretching yesterday due to the fact that we could not get a video in on Monday.  That is the first workout I did not complete on the day I was supposed to do it.  Corina has begun getting up in the middle of the night every night which has put a hurdle in our sleep schedule.  I get to leave for school later today because I have a meeting at the vo-tech for music education in the county.  This has allowed me my first cup of coffee at home since school has begun.  It feels great.  Saturday begins a new four week cycle with three new videos. 30 day pictures will be taken on Monday.

Yoga X solo

Mandy left for Florida yesterday morning so I had to make myself get up and do 92 minutes of yoga.  I figured out that the first upward dog is at 1:27 left in the video and the last is 43 minutes left in the video.  The mental focus to stay with the yoga is tough.  This is recovery week.  I am excited about well the first three weeks have gone and may need to start shopping for new pants.  My diet is not where it needs to be but it is better than it was before I started.  Baby steps I guess for a lifestyle change.

Week 3 - so far

It's been 4 workouts since the last post.  Today was a sluggish session of yoga.  I was sore from upping the weight yesterday in the shoulders and arms routine which made the chatarangas and upward dogs miserable for the first half hour of yoga.  I am noticing a change in my body as are others.  I feel most fatigued around 3:00.  If I can get to 4:30 without collapsing I am in pretty good shape until 9:00.   I am still waiting for my body to produce more energy throughout the day after a hard workout.  Next week is a recovery week and then a new set of challenges.

2 weeks in

Mandy and I are two weeks in.  We have learned many new exercises, trimmed some goop off of our bodies and learned to go to bed before 10 every night.  I am going to try a recipe from the book tomorrow. The diet has pretty much gone out the window this week.   My weight is the same as last week. I have a goal weight of 150.  Week three begins today.  Time to "Bring It"

Gaining confidence

Today's workout went very well.  I feel like I am starting to gain some mental toughness to get through most of the exercises.  Kenpo X is very fun with all the kicking and boxing.  We were a half an hour in and I thought "I'm getting the hang of this stuff."  Tomorrow marks two weeks and is a stretch day.  We are feeling good and hanging in there with the morning wake up times.

Racquetball and legs

I played some racquetball last night with some friends and felt very good other than my lousy backhand.   Today, however I was pretty sore after doing the legs and back video after nearly two hours of racquetball the night before.  A couple students laughed at me when I tried to get up from my desk chair.  Its already 8:00 and we haven't even thought about doing the ab ripper x video.  It may have to wait until tomorrow.  Kenpo X tomorrow which is my favorite.

4:30 grrr

4:30 is tough.  I need to make sure that I never schedule a long day on a Yoga X day.  I was slightly better at the ridiculous amount of runner's poses, downward dogs, and upward dogs today.  I knew better than to try to complete all of the early pushups that are optional.  I am finding out how "loose in the cage" I am.  The core is the foundation to almost all of the yoga moves.  After Ab Ripper X kicked my butt last night so did the ab focus at the end of the yoga.  Tomorrow legs and back and I get to sleep in until 5:00.  WooHoo!

School

I am so glad that I packed my lunch at school today - They served "Dunkers" with sauce, lettuce with ranch dressing, and a rice crispy treat.  As I watched the other faculty members eat the slop I thought about the kids who are also eating ice cream, cookies, and high sugar drinks and had to wonder what our society will look like in 15 years.  I hope I look more like Tony and less like half of my junior high band.

Omelettes?

I tried to make an omelette this morning.  It became pretty obvious that I don't know what I am doing.  First day of school today and I am glad to have 10 days in of workouts.  Mandy has been fantastic in all phases of this commitment.  Pants are getting looser and my body is adjusting nicely to the routine.  I was able to get 20 reps in my 2nd set of chair dips today. Last week I watched them do chair dips on the 2nd set.  That's all for now.  Ab ripper X after school.

Week 2 Day 1

Core Syn. today and I was already able to push myself further than before.  I had a little scare during prison cell pushups.  My lower back grabbed really hard and I had to break for a couple of minutes.  Mandy was able to complete every "Dreya Roll" correctly.  I was not able to do any correctly.  I still have too many rolls of my own to deal with.  I am feeling good and am excited to see what I will feel like in a month.

X Stretch

One hour of stretching this morning.  Tony spent 10-15 minutes on the hamstrings.  I learned plenty of new  stretches including the frog stretch which is the best groin stretch I have ever done.  I slept through the night for the first time since beginning the workout program.  Sleeping all night is very unusual for me so it was nice to sleep 7 consecutive hours in my bed.  Tomorrow we start the week long series again with a better awareness of the exercises and expectations.  Yeah Friday!

feeling drained

Work was very slow due to the fact it was a "work" day and I have been there for almost a month.  The 2:30 feeling hit me and I could fall asleep in moments if I tried.  After a week of exercises my body is beginning to feel a little different.  My muscles are fatigued but also feel more firm.  I don't notice a difference in the mirror yet but it has only been six workouts.  I am going to try to do the stretch video tomorrow even though it is optional. I don't think I will be waking up at 5:00 to do it though.  P90x is a 90 day cycle but at the end of the 90 days (if I make it)  I will probably want to continue.  We'll see what November holds.

punching and kicking and sweating

This morning's workout was all punches and kicks. We weren't very good at it but sweat plenty.  I am excited to start the 2nd week having a better understanding of the workouts.  Short post today.  Maybe I will reflect more later.

Adventures in parenting

Corina woke up at 4:30 this morning which made for an obstacle course for a workout.  She was the obstacle.  We made it through legs and back.  Seven different sets of pull ups.  I used a chair for my reps and at the end could only complete six with my left leg firmly on the chair.  Mandy used the resistance bands for her pull ups since we only have one bar. We still need to complete the ab ripper sometime today. I hope to complete it when Corina is sleeping.  The blogs may become less frequent since I go back to work tomorrow.

yoga X!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday afternoon I attempted the ab ripper x video.  16 minutes of torture.  I got through about half of the repetitions.  This morning was Yoga for 92 minutes.  This has been the most challenging video so far.  We began at 5:05 after hitting the snooze once.  There were a few poses that I just can't do yet but made it though the video.  I was surprised with my sweat output.  I am trying to eat healthier but I think I need more calories or at least more protein.  I know my body is still adjusting to the major wake up call that is P90X.  Tomorrow is legs and back along with another round of ab ripper x.

Day 3 - Shoulders and Arms

Today's workout was the first of many required an early wake up (5:10)  I was awake before that so I got the room ready for Tony and his "peeps".  Shoulders and arms required free weights throughout and was much more like a traditional weight room workout. Each exercise was in a set of three.  They were shoulders, biceps, triceps.  Chair dips and low squat curls were very difficult.  This workout we will continually be deciding on the proper weight for each exercise.  Mandy and I chose very light weights today to achieve proper form and learn how to complete each exercise.  Tomorrow will be the earliest morning wake up - 4:45.  Yoga X for 90 minutes.

Cardio X

Cardio X went well this morning but the disc has a scratch.  I have contacted Beachbody.com for a replacement and they are supposed to get back to me in the next 24 hours.  Favorite exercise for Mandy is Squat Press X.  Mine are the kick exercises.  The yoga warm up was a killer since we are sore from yesterday.

Here are the photos from day 1.  More photos on day 30.

Day 1 - Holy Sweat Batman!

Just completed the first workout in the "Lean" track.  I have never sweat more in an hour than I did in this workout.  I ran through tires, did the "banana boat", prison cell push ups and much more.  Mandy did a great job and seemed less winded than me. Maybe its the extra thirty pounds of donuts around my waist.  I enjoyed the first workout.  We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Day 0....

Today p90x is scheduled to arrive.  This is going to be interesting.  I am cautiously optimistic that I will be able to give updates once a week on the progress and results that Mandy and I make.  We are going to do the "Lean" workout routine.  Mandy doesn't want to look "ridiculous and gross" at the end of 90 days.  I want to lose 15 lbs in 90 days so we thought that was the best fit for us.  The chin up bar arrived yesterday and we decided on the doorway of the laundry room even though you can't see the TV from there. We will take pictures today and give measurements.  I will try to post this info tomorrow.  Hopefully by creating this blog it will help us on the accountability front.  That's all for now.  Just waiting for the mail to arrive.
